- Easily irritated, sensitive or “neurosensitive” skin is a common problem
- The skin shows a strong reaction to external (exogenous) influences such as wind, heat, cold (temperature fluctuations), but also textiles (wool), ingredients of cosmetics, nicotine and mechanical stimuli as well as to internal (endogenous) stimuli, for example psychological strain or stress
- This can have a genetic background; in this cases, the skin barrier is disturbed and irritants can penetrate the skin more easily and lead to irritations
- The skin is often dry and in worse cases eczema or skin rashes can develop
- But also wrong cleansing and care products (e.g. strongly degreasing surfactants, wrong product base for the skin type) can imbalance the skin’s own barrier and thus lead to sensitive skin
